Impact · Methodology
Symolem's proprietary Human Impact Equivalence methodology for quantifying real-world social and environmental outcomes, built for organisations that need their impact claims to hold up.
Book a call →Most impact reporting describes activity, not outcome. The HIE™ Framework, Human Impact Equivalence, was developed to express what an intervention actually changes for people and the environment, in terms that can be compared, aggregated and defended.
It converts disparate outcomes into a common equivalence so that very different programmes can be assessed on a consistent basis, without flattening the detail that matters.
HIE is built around transparent assumptions, documented evidence and explicit uncertainty. Every equivalence is traceable to its inputs, so a reviewer can interrogate the logic rather than take the headline figure on trust.
This is what separates impact measurement from impact marketing. The framework is designed to satisfy scrutiny from regulators, funders and investors.
There is a persistent gap between the impact organisations claim and the methodology that would support it, greenwishing. HIE exists to close that gap with structured, quantified evidence.
HIE has been applied across social and environmental programmes, supply-chain interventions and emerging-market initiatives. It complements existing frameworks rather than replacing them, sitting alongside carbon accounting, impact reporting and SDG alignment.
